Taxi Wait Safe Zone

news

A 'Taxi Wait Safe Zone'is being trialled in New Oxford Street to give women in London a safe place to wait for their taxi, which can be booked through a cash-free 'Safe Taxi Ordering System', accessed through an iPhone app – 'InMidtown Cabs', or through Touch & Go kiosks.

The Taxi Wait Safe Zone, staffed throughout the night and into the early morning, is situated at the GoToMidtown Shop and Visitor Information Centre at 56 New Oxford Street, with recognisable InMidtown bright orange signage and interiors. This 'safe hub'is being promoted from this month to the 200,000 office workers and many more visitors to the area.

The Safe Taxi Ordering System is run in partnership by InMidtown and London Executive. Touch & Go Kiosks are being offered from this week to businesses and organisations who wish to create a safe travel option for employees particularly women.

Tass Mavrogordato, CEO, InMidtown said: 'As the main London hub for commerce and the world's largest legal district, many companies often have late night working hours, either due to late night legal cases or communicating with businesses across the time zones.  In addition, New Oxford Street is a regular night bus route, and so our service will also provide a safe journey home for visitors from local bars and pubs. We are committed to ensuring that all employees and visitors feel safe travelling home at night in our district.'

Adam Harvey, Managing Director, London Executive said: 'This is the first London Executive partnership scheme which offers a safe area for passengers to wait for their cars. Our fleet of 420 carbon-efficient cars will be available to book through a unique cash-free system, providing a safer, greener, and reliable service.'

Inspector Will Ford, Metropolitan Police said: 'For us, community safety is of utmost importance, and we welcome any efforts to support and improve this, particularly in areas of London like New Oxford Street which do experience a high volume of illegal taxis touting for trade.  The GoToMidtown taxi service is a great initiative to ensure that if people are trying to travel late at night, there is the option of a safe waiting place and journey home.'
