SIXTEEN ARTISTS is the final show by students on the Foundation in Art and Design course at the Mary Ward Centre.
The exhibition showcases a wide range of art practice: collage, painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking on paper and fabric, drawings and installations.
The students represent the diversity of London, from all different backgrounds, from school-leavers to people in their sixties, from new artists to established professionals working in architecture, design and photography.
Course leader, Charlotte Warne Thomas, says:
I expect great things from this promising bunch of emerging artists, who have worked as a close-knit team from day one. It’s been a pleasure to nurture their individual talents and watch as they’ve flourished on the Mary Ward Centre Foundation course.
Students feel privileged to have taken part in the Foundation course and to be able to showcase their work in this exhibition.
As one student, Katy, says:
I've loved studying at Mary Ward. It's wonderful and inspiring to meet fellow students who are on my wavelength, from all different backgrounds. I've found the tutors to be extremely knowledgeable, encouraging and open. I don't know what I ever did without the centre! I will continue to develop my practice here.
Another student, Alley, says:
Mary Ward has allowed me the space to grow and move in different disciplines The tutor direction is both informative and freeing, and my relationship with art has evolved. I am creating socially engaging and personally reflective works with depth, focusing on research.
