A Play Inspired by Life of Rock Legend Nick Drake
The play, Phoenix, is a fictional story, inspired by events in the life, death and rise to fame after death of tragic 70s singer/songwriter Nick Drake and features seven live acoustic songs performed by JACK SHARMAN who takes the title role of Alan.
40 years after his mysterious death, singer/songwriter Alan Phoenix has become a hero to millions. A young journalist, Chloe (JO SHIRLEY), obsessed with learning the real story behind Phoenix's tragic life and death because it mirrors that of her brother.
Playwright Don Fried says, “Since his death Nick Drake has become a hero to millions of people, but since so little is known about him, everybody’d made up their own version, and they were all different. Even the people who knew him when he was alive tell wildly different accounts of the same events. I realised immediately, that was the story!”
Original songs for Phoenix are by successful Hollywood songwriting duo Aurah, whose music has been featured in 13 movies and over 60 TV programs.
The play is directed by Andy McQuade, winner of Fringe Report’s 2012 award for Best Theatre Director and co-founder and Artistic Director of London’s Second Skin Theatre.
