7.00pm
Premiere performance of THE FACE in Grays Inn Hall
Based on a real case, this crime thriller opera brings the criminal underworld to the heart of the legal establishment. The plot involves a drugs deal gone wrong, blackmail and a rape charge. It's a tense tale of love and revenge.
The music is written by Christopher Bowers-Broadbent, a composer and well-known concert organist with three successful operas to his credit, gives full vent to the sense of menace and excitement of the story. It will be performed by a twelve piece orchestra. The cast of young professional singers include Christopher Diffey playing 'The Face' (Karl), and Lexi Hutton playing Kirsty, but 'the Judge' is a real judge.
The opera is presented in a unique design with four stages and is directed by Ian Rutherford, well known for his work at the ENO, Glyndebourne. Clare Jacobs, the librettist, spent her early career as a practising barrister, and also wrote 'Ophelia in Pieces', a critically-acclaimed novel about life at the Bar
