Around 200 gardens take part in Open Garden Squares Weekend each year. There is a real variety - from the traditional private squares to contemporary roof gardens, not to mention skips, barges, museums, schools and allotments.
This is your opportunity to visit a mix of gardens that are private, those that are not normally open at weekends and some that are open, but are hidden gems that you might not know about. Gardens that are normally open provide activities ranging from puppet shows to walks and exhibitions by friends groups.
Local to us are, the usually private Mecklenburgh Square Garden, Bedford Square, British Medical Association and others. Click HERE to see locations on a map. It's well worth exploring the map to find may fascinating opportunities - how about the Blue Fin Garden on 10th floor of an office building by the Thames in Southwark, or Eaton Square, or William Morris Society: William Morris lived at Kelmscott House for the last 18 years of his life. He wrote: ‘The situation is certainly the prettiest in London... the garden is really most beautiful.’
Tickets give entry to ALL gardens and cost £12 before the event and £14 on 18 & 19 June. They are on sale now.
One ticket gives you access to all gardens on BOTH Saturday and Sunday; however, there are a select number of gardens which are accessible only on a guided tour. Places are allocated either on a first-come, first-served basis or by ballot. Details are on the individual garden pages.
When you purchase a ticket on line, you will be emailed an e-ticket for you to PRINT out and use over the Weekend. Your guidebook will be posted to you from May 2016 onwards.
