Dickens on Tour

events

Wednesday, 1 May 2013 - Saturday, 1 June 2013

Charles Dickens was a local, living at 48 Doughty Street from 1837 until 1839. He described the terraced Georgian dwelling as 'my house in town'. There have been a few changes since then. Not least being the conversion of his house into the Charles Dickens Museum.

HV often wonders what Charles Dickens would make of our area today.  Would he drop into Ciao Bella for a spaghetti ai broccoli and a bottle Barolo Poderi Aldo Conterno (2006) or would modern tapas be his thing at Cigala with a glass or two of Manzanilla?  Perhaps he'd pop along to one of the gentleman's clothes shops a little further up Lambs Conduit Street?  Would he prefer Tutti's or Sid's or the Expresso Room? Perhsp he'd be a fan of his own cafe?

Of course we won't know for sure, we can only use our local knowledge and speculate.  However, your speculation can now be made real (sort of) as the Dickens Museum offers to opportunity for you to take Mr Dickens (a photo rather than the real one) on a tour of our 21st century neighbourhood.

You are invited to catapult Dickens into 2013 by taking him on a tour of our locale in the modern world.

The results of Dickens’s local and worldwide tour of the 21st century will be on display at the Charles Dickens Museum from 26th June.

The Charles Dickens Museum invites you to join the tour…

So you have offered to get involved in Dickens On Tour.

Excellent, we do hope you are proficient in the very modern art of photography.

    1.    Please grab Mr Dickens (the photograph) and print him out.  Maybe he will display nicely enough on your iPad?

    2.    Now take our dear friend Dickens outside – somewhere that you think may be of interest on his great adventures – and take a photograph of him. Keep a careful note of where you took the photo.

    3.    Finally attach your photograph and send it along to us via the modern wonder of electronic mail along with your name, where you took the photo and why you chose that location.  Please, do speculate about what Mr Dickens would appreciate about your choice.

Send your email to ontour@dickensmuseum.com by Saturday 1st June

There's no need to wait.  You can join the tour immediately and follow the exciterment of Mr Dickens' tour online live, on the Charles Dickens Musuem Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Come to the Dickens on Tour exhibition 26th June - October 2013.
