27 March 2011 saw the 21st census held in Britain since they began in 1801. Since the beginning, each census has generated intense interest and controversy for a wide variety of reasons. This exhibition shows why we collect population statistics, look at what the results tell us, and illustrate the issues behind the questions over the past 210 years.
