Do You Live, Work or Study in Holborn?
You could make a huge difference to the life of a lonely older person if you have just an hour or so to spare each week.
Holborn Community Association are looking for caring, reliable people to visit isolated older people living in the Holborn area to provide company, friendship and a link to the wider community.
Could this be you?
Because of the local housing market, children often move away and other factors such as deteriorating health, death of a spouse or partner and shrinking friendship groups can all contribute to loneliness and isolation among older people.
The HCA Befriending Scheme aims to reduce loneliness and isolation and increase the quality of life of older people living in the Holborn, Bloomsbury and Covent Garden areas. The scheme supports mainly house-bound older people, matching them with trained volunteers who visit them at home on a regular basis.
Volunteers come from all walks of life and backgrounds and, whether living, working or studying in Holborn, each brings their unique talents to the project.
Holborn Community Association want volunteers to feel confident and supported in their befriending role. They provide training and induction and a programme of one to one supervision and support as well as regular meetings and events where volunteers can meet up, socialise and support one another.
